Middle School Curriculum
The Social Self- Ages 11-14
Adolescents undergo physical, emotional, and social transformation. This is a time of identity formation, independence, and a desire to contribute meaningfully to society. They seek real-life experiences and purpose.
The Montessori Middle School Curriculum (for ages 11–14) is uniquely designed to meet the developmental needs of adolescents during the Third Plane of Development, which Maria Montessori described as a time of profound physical, emotional, social, and cognitive transformation.
Rather than mimicking traditional middle schools, Montessori middle programs emphasize real-world experiences, interdisciplinary learning, emotional support, and purposeful work—all in a prepared environment that honors the adolescent’s growing need for autonomy and social connection.
