Becoming an Eco-School

Eco-schools or “Green” schools around the globe recognize the value of education in transforming how communities think about and live in the world.  Eco-schools often use a holistic education approach that focuses on creating a more balanced relationship intellectually, spiritually, emotionally, socially, aesthetically, as well as developing positive relationships with other people and their natural environment. Another essential aspect for education for sustainability is envisioning change to achieve transformation.

Our goal, at Casa Ranch Montessori, is to become the first Montessori Eco-school in our area. According to the National Wildlife Federation, the Eco-Schools program helps students, schools, and the larger school community better understand what it means to be socially, economically, and environmentally sustainable. Through Eco-Schools, students learn more about environmental issues and explore ways in which they can apply that learning to lead more sustainable lives and improve sustainability practices in the classroom and beyond.
